Our Community

Nekotopia was built by and is operated for people who want to connect, share, and explore retro computing, but without the technology and security constraints of the modern internet.

Retro Enthusiasts

Dusting off old hardware? That 90s web server, the BBS you ran in college, the Doom WAD archive you and your friends built?

Connect it to the Torus and share it again, with people who appreciate it. The modern internet doesn't play nice with unencrypted protocols or vintage systems. We provide a safe space where your classic hardware can live online.

Self-Hosters

Running services you don't want to expose to the public internet? Media servers, home automation, personal clouds, development environments?

Accessible from anywhere, visible only to the community. The Torus gives you a private network that spans the globe.

Small Groups

Families, hackerspaces, gaming clans, and small businesses that want to share fun services privately.

Your own private internet, built from whatever hardware you have lying around. No complicated VPN setup, no port forwarding nightmares, no exposing services to the world.

What Unites Us

We're people who remember when the internet was about discovery, not engagement metrics, when you built something because you wanted to, not because it would scale. When "online community" meant something you built with your hands.

What We Do Not Want, Are Not, And Do Not Stand For

The Torus is for legitimate, respectful use only. Content involving violence, abuse, or sexually explicit material is not acceptable here. Even if it’s shared privately, that could get the platform owner or moderators in some hot water.

We want this to stay a safe, drama-free service for everyone. If you’re unsure whether something is appropriate, assume it isn’t. The last thing we need to do is enforce an exclusion or expulsion because a member did something stupid.

Thanks for keeping things sensible.

The Torus is our attempt to bring some of that spirit back.
